We define transformational development as:
“a process where a country or people group progressively move towards achieving better quality of life; improved health and educational opportunities; greater inclusion in the decision process; fairness, equitable justice and forgiveness; and freedom in cultural expressions for all of its members.”
Africa, the second largest continent has great development potential, and tremendous opportunities to leapfrog the timespans of the earlier Western and Chinese development trajectories. There are many development enablers of Africa including the fastest growing population and urbanisation, growing working population that is predicted to rise to 1.1 billion by 2034, rapid industrialisation, increasing infrastructural development, availability of transformative technologies, and increasing innovation to harness the potential of Africa’s 60% uncultivated global arable land. We need a “Focus on Africa by Africans!”
In spite of these enormous opportunities, Africa faces five significant development challenges (acronym ‘PIECE’, see below) that need strategic thinking, concerted efforts and collective Pan-African approaches to address. [READ MORE]
